FAQs
How do I join online?
A link will be sent about an hour before to those who register via email from tacomadancestudios@gmail.com. Check your junk folder!
What should I wear to my first class?
Wear something that makes you feel comfortable that you can move in. For example, yoga pants, flowy skirts, tank tops, a sports bra, or belly dance attire are all acceptable. Coin belts encouraged! Don’t have one? Don’t worry, they are not necessary. We do have some at the studio for purchase if you’d like.
I’ve never danced before, can I belly dance?
Yes! One thing I love about this dance style is how inclusive it is. You don’t need prior dance training, though it never hurts!
Am I too (young/fat/old/tall/skinny/short) to belly dance?
Never, never, ever.
What kind of style do you teach?
I teach Raqs Sharqi or sometimes what we call American Cabaret style. This style is derived from Egyptian style and staged American performances.
Do I need to buy anything for my first class?
No. Whenever I teach anything that involves finger cymbals, veils, or tray balancing I provide student level props. However, finger cymbals (Zills), choli tops, and coin belts are available for purchase at the studio.
Do you wear shoes in class?
No, but if that makes you uncomfortable, socks/dance shoes are acceptable. We do not wear shoes so we can protect our knees when dancing.
